It Can Happen To You.

I started out in the corporate world because I wanted to make a difference.  There is a 70% unemployment rate among people who are blind and visually impaired in the United States.  35% of which are either gainfully employed or under employed.  The 35% who are under employed often work for a non-profit organization in an industry program under a federal law that was passed in the late 1930’s that mandates that Federal Government agencies purchase items from these non-profit organizations made by people who are blind.

Although the legislation behind the program was designed under good intentions, it is antiquated and needs a serious overhaul.  Most of the non-profit agencies under this federal program have no incentive under this legislation to provide opportunities for upward mobility of people who are blind.  There are people in the program who are qualified for positions at the professional/managerial level that often fall through the cracks.  I believe this is because of technological, attitudinal, sociological and political barriers.

There are some non-profit organizations that have recognized this problem and are actively doing something about it, though there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.  I went through one of those programs.  Yet I am back at one of those non-profit organizations working in a production position instead of at the professional/managerial level.  Why?  It is because there are no jobs available for someone who is totally blind like me at the professional/managerial level.  I believe the main reason is because many of the non-profits have limited resources and cannot afford to invest 10s of thousands of dollars in adaptive technology needed to modify the job so that someone totally blind like me can do the job efficiently and without sighted assistance.  More importantly, there is no reason for them to do so.

For example, a non-profit that I work for has a call center.  The entire organization produces annual revenues of more than $200 million, they pay their call center staff who have high school diplomas or barely out of college $14.00 an hour, yet they cannot invest a mear $30,000.00 to modify the job for a totally blind person.  They can afford to invest $2,000,000.00 in machinery that brakes down a lot so that the blind employees with masters degrees that operate them can make minimum wage or barely above.  I don’t know about you but that just does not sound right or fair to me but that’s all there is available right now.

I had my state send me to school on the tax-payer’s dime.  I got a masters degree all on their dime but I haven’t used it in over a year.  That’s politics.

Two years ago, I took an office job as a project specialist for anon-profit organization.  It sounded very promising and I was told I would be working for a company who was not only financially sound but who would be patient with me in helping me learn the business.  They told me I was doing a great job and that in two years I would be promoted to a higher position.  That was until the bottom began to fall out.

It turned out the company was not doing so well and that they were scrambling to keep it above water.  Almost a year after I was hired, everyone had to take a 25% pay cut.  Two months later I was let go and told that I could work in the factory for minimum wage until another office position became available.  So I staid on a couple of months until things went from bad to worse.

They started laying off most of the factory workers.  They changed the health insurance policy from a good policy to a not so good policy.  They also had a call center that was intended for people who were totally blind but they decided to hire sighted people to work in the call center instead.  They managed to achieve ISO 9,000 certification but they laid off more than 40 plus blind factory workers who were only making minimum wage.  They lost two major contracts and they are on the verge of losing more.  They are still in business but barely holding on from what I have heard.

I uprooted my family, invested two years prior to that in a training program and seven  years of school prior to all of that to end up making just barely above minimum wage.  For a long time I felt that I would have been much better off not going to school and taking a job at one of those non-profits instead because I would have been a lot further ahead.  That was until I found this business opportunity.

I’m sorry to tell you this folks but corporations don’t care if you can pay your bills or not.  This is especially true for many corporations employing blind people.  What they care about are mission, margin and balance.  If they can’t get those three components right, they can’t help you; sorry.  This is true for even major corporations.  No one is immune from losing their job.

Is there anything we can do?  Yes there is.  You can start your own business and take control of your life.  You can even start your own business without going into debt.  We teach a step by step approach for helping you start making money so that you can achieve your dream and the life style you want.  There is no risk to you.  If you follow the system we teach, there is no reason why you cannot be successful in this business.  So what are you waiting for?

Your job isn’t going to be there for you.  You can be one of the smartest people in the world, think you have it altogether, believe “it won’t happen to me,” then you wake up one day, go into work as usual , get pulled into a meeting and are told “sorry but we got to let you go.”  Believe me that is one of the most devastating feelings to have.  Have you thought about what you are going to do?

How are you going to pay your mortgage?

How are you going to pay your bills?

How are you going to put food on the table?

How long do you think that unemployment check is going to last?

It’s only a matter of time folks before it all comes crashing down.  Don’t you think you need to have a plan?  You can’t turn back the clock and do it all over again.  Once your time is spent, you can never get it back.

What would your life be like if you had more time and money?  Would it be worth 15 minutes out of your busy schedule if it meant that you could have more time and money to do what you want instead of having it controlled by a boss who doesn’t care about you?

Believe me they are not going to lose a night’s sleep over you when they let you go.  The only thing that your boss cares about is your boss.  In fact my last boss I worked for told me that she was my friend.  She still was instrumental in my being layed off.  Well with friends like her, I don’t need any enemies.  Think she’s still my friend?  We’ll leave that one up to your imagination.  The people you work for are not your friends.  They may be friendly to you and tell you they are your friends, but I’m sorry, they are not.  So think long and hard before you decide to give your life away to these people who don’t care about you.

You need to build a business that you can afford to build on a part time basis.  Build it until it replaces your income from your job for about six months to a year.  Then if you are happier doing the business, then you can quit your job and do what ever you like.  Think about it and then click this link http://www.eversonlinemarketing.com to learn more and finally get the time and money you deserve.

Who wouldn’t be happier living the life they were meant to live?  Get up when you want too.  Go to bed when you want too.  Travel anywhere in the world you want to go.  Stay as long as you want to stay.  Drive the car you want to drive.  Build the house you want to live in and have it all paid for.

Don’t buy into the old fashioned industrial age philosophy that says having a job will make you successful; it won’t.  What will make you successful is owning a business with a system that will work for you instead of working for the system.  I’ll talk more about that in future updates.  Think about it and we’ll see you at the top.
